…well, actually it’s more “Honorable Mention in a writing contest,” but beggars mustn’t be choosers and all that. It’s definitely better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Or a blunt stick. Or any sort of stick. The point is, wear safety glasses.
Anyway. Code Billy was selected as an Honorable Mention Winner in the 2018 Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards. Now, I know what you’re thinking. “When did the Nobel Prize for Literature change its name and start calling the top award ‘Honorable Mention Winner?'” But no, it’s not like that. However, it does seem that out of 2300 or so entries the folks at Writer’s Digest are recognizing around 40 of them. See above for the information about eyes and sticks. Plus they sent along this nifty electronic sticker:
Writer’s Digest officially announces the contest results in March and I’ll stick a link to the full list here when I have it. In the meantime if you’re the sort of person who likes to have your opinions of literature reinforced by positive reviews, here’s an excerpt from the judge’s critique:
“Code Billy is a highly original book. Ben Huber has a strong voice and vibrant writing style… An engaging book from a writer with a unique perspective and strong skill with language.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Update: It’s real. You have to squint and scroll a bit but it’s there, eventually.
